How to Eliminate Body Odor (Steps and Tips)

Are you plagued by body odor that seems to pop up
during the most inopportune times?
Below are steps and tips on how to eliminate that body odor.

STEPS:

  • Be sure to shower or bathe every morning. Use proper body cleansing agents such as shower gel. Wash everything completely. If you live in a desert or other water-starved area, a sponge bath for just the "smelly" areas should suffice.
  • Apply antiperspirant/deodorant daily, after washing.
  • Change your clothes, including undergarments, daily.
  • Store your clothes in places where air can get to and that smell nice. Consider scented paper as lining in your drawers.
  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • If the body odor doesn't seem to go away, no matter how much you wash; consider pro-biotics, or changing your diet. Don't bother trying to mask the odor, find out what is causing it, and treat it.
  • Body odor may also include halitosis, which is often a sign of gingivitis. Floss daily, preferably twice a day, and obviously brush your teeth too. Professional cleaning at least 2x a year.

TIPS:

  • You MUST use an antiperspirant, not just a deodorant as the bacteria that produce the odor can only grow if they have moisture. (Really? Millions of years of evolution produced something of no value?)
  • Reduce the odor through diet if possible [avoid processed food], mask it [baking soda and cinnamon powder both work well for some people], but don't stop vital bodily processes.

  • If you suffer from foot odor, you should wear socks in your shoes (preferably cotton, which absorbs moisture and dry faster), and change them daily to keep your feet dry.
  • If you have a chronic body odor that never goes away, no matter how much you wash; you may have a bacterial imbalance in your digestive system. Take probiotics and the smell will go away.
  • Apply extra virgin coconut oil to your skin, it kills bacteria.
  • If you are taking any prescription medication, consult your doctor, as some medications may cause body odor, sweating, etc.
  • Let your deodorant dry completely before getting dressed.
  • Apply talcum powder to the armpits of your clothes and rub it in (remove the evidence on dark clothing by rubbing it off from the outside). Also apply it to your skin after deodorant, but don't rub it in.
  • Shaving beneath your arms can help eliminate body odor.
  • Use Chlorophyll geltabs or Chorophyll liquid from Wild Oats/Whole Foods or health food store. It's in internal deodorizer that minimizes or eliminates body odor.
  • Foods with high sulfur content is a definite culprit for those with body odor problems. Look at websites for listings of foods.

Just do your best to follow these advice and you'll be a new YOU.

Get Rid of Bad Breath

Get rid of bad breath with easy, simple tips that make a big difference.

If you want to get rid of bad breath, it depends to some extent on the cause of the problem. If you have any doubts, or the problem seems chronic, it would be wise to consult your dentist or physician to ensure that the bad breath is not symptomatic of other problems that should be addressed. For instance, you could have periodontal problems (gum disease), and even diabetes can cause breath odor.

Generally, the causes of bad breath are well known and can be addressed by applying the following admittedly general advice. These are appropriate to the most common cases of bad breath, such as that which is caused by mouth bacteria creating a smell as it breaks down food consumed.

If bacteria are responsible for the smell, wouldn't removing or killing the bacteria alleviate the bad breath problem? This is not a practical answer, as the bacteria are naturally occurring and required by the body to pre-process food before it passes to the stomach. However, if we discourage the extent of activity of the bacteria by various means and this will reduce the problem.

The bacteria thrive on protein rich foods, so reducing the amount of meat consumed and increasing instead fruit and vegetable intake is a benefit and lessens bad breath. You may also want to consider this action for general health reasons.

A dry mouth is possibly the most common reason for having a noticeable problem with the bacteria. The bacteria are anaerobic, which literally means without oxygen, and saliva provides oxygen, so a lack of saliva encourages growth. Saliva can be reduced if you breathe through the mouth, as for example when you sleep, and this causes morning breath. Other mouth drying activities include missing meals, drinking alcohol and not drinking enough water to stay hydrated.

  • If you are in the habit of eating foods rich in garlic, onions or other strong smelling fare, then the answer to reducing a bad breath problem should be fairly obvious. The smell is basically of a sulfurous nature, and is transferred to the blood, then to the lungs, where it is exhaled. The smell will stay until expelled from the body.

Pay close attention to your dental hygiene to help get rid of bad breath. It's worth brushing not only your teeth but also the surface of your tongue and the roof of your mouth to reduce odor. Daily flossing will remove food and debris, and should help get rid of the problem.

Other Obesity Treatment

Exercise and perspirational activities
Exercise is an important part of any weight reduction plan. A workout for at least 30 minutes to an hour every morning is beneficial. Walking is the best exercise to begin with. Other exercises include swimming, bicycling, trekking and so on.

Curb negative emotions and develop positive outlook
Above all, obese persons should make every effort to avoid negative emotions such as anxiety, fear, hostility, and insecurity, and develop a positive outlook on life.

Acupressure and Obesity
Acupressure points such as the middle of the upper lip, below the nose and an inch below and one inch up the naval point on the stomach are points of relevance in case of obesity. Press these points 3 to 4 times a day for 5minutes each. It helps control hunger and in the overall control of obesity.

Behavior Modification towards Eating
For three months, eat food by chewing a single morsel at least 50 times, so that it turns into almost a liquid before gulping it down. It has very effectively reduced the obesity of many people.

What Causes Obesity?

Obesity means having too much body fat. It is different from being overweight, which means weighing too much. The weight may come from muscle, bone, fat and/or body water. Both terms mean that a person's weight is greater than what's considered healthy for his or her height.

Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use. The balance between calories-in and calories-out differs for each person. Factors that might tip the balance include your genetic makeup, overeating, eating high-fat foods and not being physically active. Being obese increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis and some cancers. If you are obese, losing even 5 to 10 percent of your weight can delay or prevent some of these diseases.

Obesity may develop from a combination of factors. One key cause is over-eating as the intake of calories (the energy value of food) exceeds the requirements of the body over a long period of time. This excess energy is stored in the body cells in the form of fat and sugar and gives the individual the outward appearance of being overweight

Other key factors include: Genetic or hereditary traits including social, behavioral, cultural, and physiological factors, metabolic (the body's process of using energy) factors; and some medications that may contribute to the development of Obesity.

Here is a list of causes that are relevant in our times and important factors one must be wary of to avoid obesity:

  • Inactive or Sedentary lifestyle
  • A high glycemic diet. Such as a diet that consists of meals that give high postprandial blood sugar
  • Weight cycling, caused by repeated attempts to lose weight by dieting
  • Underlying illness such as hypothyroidism
  • Genetic disorders
  • Eating disorders such as binge eating disorder
  • Stressful mentality
  • Insufficient sleep
  • Certain medications such as atypical antipsychotics
  • Smoking cessation
  • Genetic factors

Remember, it is never too late to take the road to fitness. ^_^

What Do You Know About Hypothermia?

Hypothermia is caused by a reduction in body temperature, usually through exposure to cold water or cold weather. It is defined in stages. Untreated hypothermia, especially in the later stages is extremely serious. It can result in organ death, heart arrhythmias, or extreme disorientation that results in remaining outdoors and shedding clothing because one doesn’t feel the cold. If the person is not found and quickly treated, death is likely.

Never attempt to bring a hypothermia victim’s body back to normal temperature by placing him in hot water, giving him alcohol or wrapping him in an electric or hot blanket. If his body temperature rises too fast, it could induce cardiac arrest.

Common causes of hypothermia include:
* Being outside without enough protective clothing in winter.
* Falling overboard from a boat into cold water.
* Wearing wet clothing in windy or cold weather.
* Heavy exertion, not drinking enough fluids, or not eating enough in cold weather.

First Aid:

If any symptoms of hypothermia are present, especially confusion or changes in mental status, immediately call for help.

  • If the person is unconscious, check airway, breathing, and circulation. If necessary, begin rescue breathing or CPR. If the victim is breathing less than 6 breaths per minute, begin rescue breathing.
  • Take the person inside to room temperature and cover him or her with warm blankets. If going indoors is not possible, get the person out of the wind and use a blanket to provide insulation from the cold ground. Cover the person's head and neck to help retain body heat.
  • Once inside, remove any wet or constricting clothes and replace them with dry clothing.
  • Warm the person. If necessary, use your own body heat to aid the warming. Apply warm compresses to the neck, chest wall, and groin. If the person is alert and can easily swallow, give warm, sweetened, nonalcoholic fluids to aid the warming.
  • Stay with the person until medical help arrives.

With the advent of fast-paced technology, we can now use an intravenous fluid warmer that can raise body temperature in severe cases of hypothermia. One of the best brands in this field is the Thermal Angel.

Thermal Angel Blood Warmer Detail: It is an in-line, battery-powered disposable, lightweight and completely portable blood and IV fluid warming device, capable of intravenous application and irrigation warming, that can be used to help prevent fluid-induced hypothermia.

As trauma situations require immediate attention, time and effort should be spent with patient care, not complex equipment. The Thermal Angel proves to be a cost-effective tool in reducing staff time, training, maintenance and patient hypothermia complications.

Areas of use for Thermal Angel
What's great about this product is that is is suited in all types of environment, such as the military and government, hospital, pre-hospital, and specialized areas.

Compare to older technologies
You can also make a comparison of the Thermal Angel Blood and IV Fluid Infusion Warmer to other fluid warmers to see detailed specification and characteristic.

However, in conditions that might induce hypothermia, you should not give up your own sources of warmth if you do not have access to an indoor environment. In this case it may be best to lie on the person to help confer some of your body warmth to them.

What causes these dramatic drops in body temperature are actually the body’s way of attempting to help itself. As the body is exposed to cold, the capillaries and veins supplying the extremity start to constrict. This constriction continues as cold exposure continues. The end result of course stops blood flow to the organs resulting in tissue death.

Practical Tips to Get Rid of Pimples

There can be a variety of causes for pimples, including stress and diet. I would suggest you be cool, not worry so much and eat nutritiously. Drink water. Lay-off a lot of sweets and fatty foods. You really need to only watch out for 3 things – oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. So here are a few practical tips for you:

1) Use a mild cleanser to rid your face of excess oil and dirt. Wash your face every morning and evening as well as in times when your face feels very, very, oily (i.e. after exercising, and in tropical countries, you tend to sweat and feel oily a lot).

2) Don’t use oil-based moisturizers and lotions. You would know if the moisturizer feels very slippery and greasy after it is allowed to dry. You can also put moisturizer on a thin sheet of paper and let it dry. If it’s oil-based, you would know, it looks awful.

3) Wash your hair everyday. Hair is very dirty and most of the time it touches your face (if you have long hair). Some people also have oilier hair, they should really keep this tip in mind.

4) Stop touching and/or putting too much pressure (when washing your face) on the pimple. Your hands are dirty most of the time and putting pressure on the pimple would stimulate the gland and produce more oil as well as irritate the pimple. It also goes to show that popping a pimple is a definite no-no.

5) Relax and control stress. Stress is believed to be a contributing factor in sebum production and shedding of dead skin cells. This topic is still under debate but it helps to be cautious.

6) Be patient, pimples usually subside after 2-4 weeks (assuming you keep your face clean, minimize oiliness, and have the self-control to not touch it) Lastly, get some sleep. Healing takes place in the body while you sleep.

There you go, remember that the key to battling pimple breakouts and acne is not just a product or a dermatological procedure, but the knowledge of the underlying causes of pimples and controlling those factors. Now that you know, you’ll be pimple-free in no time. ^_^

Meditation and Visualization for Cancer Patients

Life is stressful, even in the best of times. When you add cancer to the mix, the stress seems to multiply itself exponentially.

Studies have shown time and time again that mindful meditation and other relaxation techniques, such as yoga, help decrease stress.

Some practitioners even believe that meditation boosts your immune system and can actually help fight cancer. At the very least, meditation and visualization help you feel more relaxed and in control of your condition, which is no small feat!

Cancer-specific Meditations and Visualizations

The meditations and visualizations you choose should make sense and feel helpful to you. Select meditation phrases that focus on relaxation and the theme that things would get better. The following are from the book, "Present Moment, Wonderful Moment: Mindful Versus for Daily Living" by Thich Nhat Hanh.

Breathing in I calm my body; Breathing out I smile.

Feelings come and go, like clouds in a windy sky. Conscious breathing is my anchor.

I also wrote meditations of my own, and they were very effective and meaningful to me.

Being still, I am what will, Strength and heart and mind, Enjoy.

  • Start-out using breathing as a source of healing power. Imagine that the air was circulating through your body, cleansing it of toxins. When you exhale, all those toxins would leave.
  • Remind yourself to meditate and visualize.
  • The effects of meditation and visualization increase when you make regular repetitions of them. You can train your thoughts and body to deal with stressful situations if your practice. Many cultures have taken this concept to heart and have created rituals and reminders of meditation.
  • You should use some sort of reminder system that makes sense to you.

It's okay to take your time and figure out what techniques work best for you. Be creative and don't be hard on yourself if you "mess up." As cancer patients, there are certain things that can and cannot be controlled. With practice, you can control how your bodies and mind respond to stress. Good luck!

Facial Acupressure & Techniques

The massage techniques include face acupressure and head massage.

A facial acupressure chart has also been included so you can locate and massage additional points yourself. The face exercises, which include eye exercises and double chin exercises, can be found via links at the bottom of this page.
Free Face Exercises: Acupressure & Face Massage
There are dozens of acupressure points on the face, and many massage techniques. However, all you need to get started is the five common acupressure points and two massage techniques illustrated below.

How to Do Face Acupressure:

1. Locate the points with your index fingers.
2. Gently press them until you feel no more than a comfortable pain.
3. Hold the pressure while you knead the points with very small circular movements.
4. Breathe slowly and deeply and focus your mind on the points as you massage them.
5. Massage each point for 1-2 minutes several times a day.

------------

Point 1. (known as Jingming in Chinese)

Located on the inside edge of the orbit of each eye.

Press and knead for sore, tired eyes and as a preventative against eye problems.

------------

Point 2. (Zanzhu)

Located on the medial end of each eyebrow.

Press and knead for frontal headache, sore, tired eyes, sinus pain, and as a preventative against eye problems.

------------

Point 3. (Taiyang)

Located on the temples behind each eye.

Use your index and middle fingers to press and knead for one or two sided headache, to calm the mind, and for eye problems. Also used preventatively.

------------

Point 4. (Yingxiang)

Located next to each nostril.

Press and knead for nasal congestion, sinusitis, rhinitis, and to help prevent these problems.

For greater effectiveness use your index fingers to rub up and down the sides of your nose between Yingxiang and Jingming (Point 1) for 1-2 minutes, several times a day.

------------

Point 5. (Renzhong)

Located under your nose, on the midline.

Use your knuckle or the tip of your middle or index finger. Pressing this point draws energy up to your head and helps your nasal passages adjust to weather changes. Also used as a revival point after fainting or shock.

------------

Technique 1. (Forehead Rub)

Use your index and middle fingers to rub across your forehead, from the middle to your temples.

Massage and rub this area for frontal headache, sinus pain, insomnia, sore eyes, stress, and to help prevent these problems.

------------

Technique 2. (Head Massage)

Use the tips (including the nails) of your fingers and thumbs to press and rub your scalp from the midline to the sides, and from the front to the back of your head.

Relieves and prevents headache, and is highly relaxing, especially when done by someone else.

The Shocking Reality of Hair Loss

It is normal for the human head to shed around 50 to 100 hairs a day, so considering that there are millions of hairs on the head, this doesn’t seem so bad. However if your body is not also producing hair, these numbers will add up fast and will quickly lead to baldness. Some people may experience excessive (more than normal) hair loss. Hair loss of this type can affect men, women and children. There are many theories related to the cause of baldness but no one is positive of the exact cause. The only thing researchers are sure of is that around 50 percent of men worldwide will suffer from male pattern baldness.

The medical term for hair loss is "alopecia" (say: al-oh-pee-sha). Pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia), the most common type of alopecia, affects roughly one-third of men and women. It's typically permanent. Other types of alopecia are temporary, including alopecia areata. It can involve hair loss on your scalp or other parts of your body.

The word "alopecia" comes from the Greek "alopex" for "fox." Foxes are less furry when afflicted with a skin disease (the "mange") which causes them to lose their hair. When a fancier word for "baldness" was sought, the mangy fox supplied it -- "alopecia" or, if you wish, "fox-mange" -- not a very positive image to associate with baldness!

WHAT CAUSES HAIR LOSS?

A number of things can cause excessive hair loss:
  • Hormonal problems may cause hair loss. If your thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, your hair may fall out. This hair loss usually can be helped by treatment thyroid disease. Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss.
  • After giving birth. Many women notice hair loss about 3 months after they've had a baby. This loss is also related to hormones. During pregnancy, high levels of certain hormones cause the body to keep hair that would normally fall out. When the hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels, that hair falls out and the normal cycle of growth and loss starts again.
  • Poor nutrition. Poor eating can contribute to hair loss. This is why some people with eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia lose their hair: The body isn't getting enough protein, vitamins, and minerals to sustain hair growth. Some teens who are vegetarians also lose their hair if they don't get enough protein from non-meat sources. And some athletes are at higher risk for hair loss because they may be more likely to develop iron-deficiency anemia.
  • Some medicines can cause hair loss. This type of hair loss improves when you stop taking the medicine. Medicines that can cause hair loss include blood thinners (also called anticoagulants), medicines used for gout, medicines used in chemotherapy to treat cancer, vitamin A (if too much is taken), birth control pills and antidepressants.
  • Certain infections can cause hair loss. Fungal infections of the scalp can cause hair loss in children. The infection is easily treated with antifungal medicines.
  • Male-pattern baldness. Among adults, particularly men, the most common cause of hair loss is androgenetic (pronounced: an-druh-juh-neh-tik) alopecia, also called male-pattern baldness. This condition is caused by a combination of factors, including hormones called androgens and genetics. In some males, the hair loss can start as early as the mid-teen years. It can also occur in guys who take steroids like testosterone to build their bodies.
  • Finally, hair loss may occur as part of an underlying disease, such as lupus or diabetes. Since hair loss may be an early sign of a disease, it is important to find the cause so that it can be treated.

    Catastrophic Hair Loss

Hair loss can be the first outward sign that a person is sick, so it may feel scary. Teens who have cancer and lose their hair because of chemotherapy treatments go through a difficult time, especially girls.

There are a lot of treatments and nutritional supplements available today for the treatment and prevention of hair loss in men and women. Provillus is a relatively new product manufactured by Ultra Herbal for those suffering from hair loss. It does this by creating the optimum environment for new, healthy hairs. Provillus supplies the proper nutrition to bring dead hair follicles back to life or prevent hair loss from occurring. And since provillus is a supplement, no prescription is necessary.

It is a totally natural formula for controlling hormonal by-products that serve as the main cause of hair loss in men. At TrustSource.org, it has been found to be very effective since many people who have tried it have reported back and given positive provillus reviews. It is available in the form of capsules or pills. Normally it is recommended to take 1 or 2 capsules a day. Many people argue that it’s not effective for the females, but you should know that a different formula is available now for the treatment of female pattern baldness. Since it contains all the natural ingredients, you don’t need a prescription to order it. For more info on provillus, you can also visit Big Mikes Fitness Blog.

Aside from this, it can help to feel like you have some control over your appearance when you're losing your hair. Try some of the many options for disguising hair loss — such as wearing wigs, hair wraps, hats, and baseball caps. For most teens who lose their hair, the hair does return — including after chemotherapy. And hair loss during chemotherapy is usually a sign that the treatment is working to destroy the cancer cells because you can see how it's working on the good cells (your hair!).
Losing hair can be stressful during a time when appearance really matters, but the good news is that hair loss that happens during the teen years is often temporary. Once the problem that causes it is corrected, the hair usually grows back.

If you have unusual hair loss and don't know what's causing it, it's a good idea to see your doctor. A doctor can determine why the hair is falling out and suggest a treatment that will correct the underlying problem, if necessary.
